Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box passes directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Augusta County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email is retained as needed to prepare a response. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to collect routine technical details:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when available
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, including which resources are used most and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Finding and repairing technical problems
- Measuring which resources are useful
- Operating the site and improving load performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Augusta County Criminal History does not build, store, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes instructions for reaching the Augusta sheriff, the Virginia courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing choices apply to information submitted through those tools. Those practices are beyond our control, so review the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to court portals, sheriff and state-agency websites, legal-help resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's own privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted advertisements.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring use and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to them
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet system is completely secure, however, and an absolute guarantee against unauthorized access cannot be made.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such data is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection laws may provide rights beyond those listed here. Public records requested from Virginia bodies are governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 restricts dissemination of state criminal-history information. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal data held about them
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law permits
- Opt out of eligible forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A new version will appear here with its updated effective date.
